Sangit Rauniyar: The President of Madheshi Associaiton in America

Dr. Sangit Rauniyar is, a distinguished figure who stands as the current President of the Madheshi Association in America (MAA), a position earned through his election during the 3rd General Convention for the illustrious term spanning 2023-2025. He also holds the honor of being the founding General Secretary of MAA, a testament to his deep-rooted commitment to the Nepali community in the United States.

Residing in the heart of Grand Prairie, Texas, alongside his wife, Asha Rauniyar, and their daughters, Shreya and Alisha, Dr. Rauniyar’s journey to the United States spans over a decade. Armed with a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Civil-Structural Engineering from the venerable University of Texas at Arlington. His professional calling beckons him as a Structural Bridge Engineer within the esteemed Texas Department of Transportation.

Born in the enchanting environs of Phattepur, Saptari, Nepal, Dr. Rauniyar’s educational odyssey began at the Gobardhan Bairagi School in Phattepur. His journey culminated in the United States but was enriched by formative milestones back in Nepal. Including a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Western Regional Campus, Pokhara, and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the prestigious Pulchowk Campus in Kathmandu., where he also claimed the coveted first position in the civil engineering entrance examination.

Yet, his professional prowess is but one facet of Dr. Rauniyar’s luminous identity. A dedicated social worker, he pushes to fortify the Madheshi Community and kindle the flames of Madheshi culture via various programs. His philanthropic efforts extend beyond borders, with initiatives in Nepal aimed at providing succor to victims of storms and floods.

His collaborative spirit knows no bounds, as he harmonizes with other Nepalese organizations, such as the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) NCC USA and the Nepalese Society of Texas, to enrich and serve the Nepali community. Notably, he has worn the mantle of Co-Chair of NRNA NCC USA’s Science and Technology committee.

Looking to the horizon, Dr. Rauniyar envisions programs tailored for the next generation, such as Youth Leadership programs, which are a testament to his commitment to cultivating leaders from the progeny, bearing testament to his foresight.

In his leisure moments, Dr. Rauniyar finds solace in the embrace of his cherished family, cherishing time spent with his beloved children.

When asked about the Nepali American community’s social contribution, Dr. Rauniyar applauds its burgeoning involvement in social programs and civic engagement. He recognizes the strides made in academic, business, and political sectors. Still, he underscores the imperative of engaging the next generation in these communal endeavors, believing that their involvement is the linchpin of the Nepali American community’s future.

As for his involvement in social work, Dr. Rauniyar attributes it to a profound reverence for his culture and a desire to foster a platform for the community to unite, celebrate, and preserve their heritage. He believes in the essence of community and the satisfaction that comes from helping others, a belief that fuels his dedication to social service.
