In the small village of Ragainja, nestled in the lap of Dang, Nepal, a young soul named Gehendra Bahadur KC was born into a family of humble farmers and landlords. His childhood, illuminated by the awakening of democracy during the Panchayat regime, imprinted profound concepts of governance on his young mind. His nascent passion for democracy often led to reprimands when he returned home.
As he troded the path of education, Gehendra pursued a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) at Shankar Dev Campus, in 1999. While pursuing a Master in Business Administration (MBA) at Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, he immigrated to the United States with a Diversity Visa in 2004. His academic voyage laid the foundation for a journey that would embrace both government service and entrepreneurship.
In 1995, Gehendra started a career in the Nepal Government Investigation Department, which spanned until 2003. In 2004, a new chapter unfolded as he ventured into the market of convenience stores in the United States. His immersion in the convenience store business nurtured a growing interest in entrepreneurship. He took the reins of entrepreneurship, becoming the owner of Dang Everest LLC, Neighborhood Mart (1 & 2), Quick Shop N Go, and an investor in Dynamic Investment Groups.
Gehendra passionately engaged in the Nepali community’s social activities. He envisioned a unified Nepali Community in Austin, Texas, committed to preserving the rich essence of Nepali culture. This vision propelled him to assume the role of President of the Greater Austin Nepali Society from 2015 to 2017. Gehendra’s dedication to community welfare led to the establishment of the Greater Austin Nepali Community and Spiritual Center, an enduring legacy (Pashupatinath Temple, 1251 Co Rd 138, Hutto TX 78634).
He tirelessly worked towards uniting the Nepali diaspora, serving as the Coordinator of the Greater Austin Nepali Community and Spiritual Center from 2018-2024. His advisory role in the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) of America from 2021-2023 further exemplified his commitment to community betterment. He has been a steadfast member of the Nepali Congress, actively participating from 1989-1995. His leadership as President of the Greater Austin Nepali Society left an indelible mark, and as an advisor to the NRNA, he continues to shape the course of the Nepali community in the United States.
Gehendra Bahadur KC’s journey embodies the fusion of community service, entrepreneurship, and dedication to his roots. His mantra for success resonates with simplicity—sincerity, self-improvement, and a commitment to the community’s welfare will inevitably yield both wealth and recognition.
Gehendra’s legacy is one he hopes will be characterized by a foundation for a confident, altruistic, and intelligent future generation. With Dr. Anita Thapa KC as his spouse and children, Arya KC and Arav KC, Gehendra Bahadur KC paints a portrait of a life dedicated to service, community, and the preservation of Nepali heritage. To the new generation, his message is simple—dream big and do your best to pursue it, for nothing is impossible.
