Bikash Devkota, a distinguished senior social servant and entrepreneur, has made significant contributions to the promotion of Nepali culture and language in the United States. Born in September 1963 in Liglig, Gorkha, Devkota hailed from a well-off landlord family with a lineage of renowned priests, enjoying a royal childhood in Bandipur.
His educational journey began at Bandipur Higher Secondary School, where he completed SLC in 1980. After graduating from Tribhuvan University in 1988, he worked as a primary school teacher at Dil Primary School from 1981 and played a pivotal role in establishing Natradon School in Bandipur, Tanahau, where he served from 1985 to 2002.
In Bandipur, Devkota actively engaged in social service, serving as the secretary of a forest conservation project, contributing to the Red Cross Society, and leading road construction initiatives at the local level.
Upon moving to Florida in 2005, he faced initial struggles, working at a gas station for four years before venturing into entrepreneurship. In 2010, he established Discount Tobacco Outlet, which has since thrived.
Fueled by his passion for social service, Devkota joined the Florida Nepal Association (FNA) in 2007, later becoming a treasurer for the Florida Association of Nepalese Society (FANS) in 2011. His leadership was instrumental in merging FNA and FANS into the Nepalese Association of Florida in 2013, where he subsequently served as the president.
Devkota extended his involvement by joining the International Nepalese Literary Society (INLS) Florida Chapter in 2008, assuming the role of vice president in 2011. A pioneer in establishing Nepali language schools across Florida in 2011, Devkota oversees the volunteer teachers.
In 2012, he founded the Nepalese Community Center Orlando and currently serves as its advisor. His contributions expanded to the Nepalese Association for South East America (NASeA), where he served as a board member in 2013 and advisor in 2015. From 2021 to 2023, Devkota held the position of President at NRNA NCC USA, Florida Chapter.
A literary enthusiast, Devkota authored the Nepali poem collection,”Prabashko Aangan” in 2014. For the past three years, he has been leading Tribeni Shahitya Sangam, showcasing his commitment to literary endeavors.
