Kunjar M. Sharma: The Honrary Consul General of Nepal

Kunjar M. Sharma, born in Nepal in 1939, is a distinguished Canadian citizen with a rich academic background. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Denver. His educational journey also includes multiple degrees and professional certifications, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning.

With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Sharma has held various notable positions. From 1971 to 1973, he served as a Research Fellow at the Center for Foreign Policy Studies, Department of Political Science, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia. Moving forward, he became a Senior Vice President and Partner at BDO Dunwoody Limited in Toronto from 1974 to 2001. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2003, he took on the role of Partner Emeritus and Consultant at BDO Dunwoody Limited. Since 2003, Dr. Sharma has been the President of Kunjar Sharma & Associates Inc., Toronto.

Dr. Sharma is actively involved in various organizations, leaving a lasting impact. From 1983 onwards, he has been a Founder, Benefactor, Advisor, and President (1989 – 1991) of the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA). Additionally, he has served as the Founding Director and Treasurer of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation in Nepal, Canadian Chapter, since 1988.

Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Sharma is a devoted supporter of community initiatives. He played a crucial role in founding the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) and the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation in Nepal.

He has received prestigious awards, including the Volunteer Service Award from the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture, and Communications, Government of Ontario, in 1993. In 1997, he received the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Accession to the Throne Award from His Majesty, the King of Nepal, and the Professional of the Year Award from the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce. The President’s Award from the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation of Canada came in 2010, followed by the A-List Honoree recognition in 2018 and the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Association of Nepalese in the Americas and Nepalese Canadian Community Services in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

His media presence is marked by numerous appearances on national platforms, addressing a range of issues from free trade to community development. Dr. Sharma holds social memberships, including the Royal Canadian Military Institute and the National Club.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Sharma finds joy in activities such as hiking, canoeing, fitness, and running marathons. His dedication to community service and international business consulting has established him as a respected and influential figure, leaving an indelible mark on various spheres of society.
